Programs for Foreign Medical Doctors
We are also looking for physicians and nurses to receive nursing degrees in colleges and universities in the United States. Foreign Medical Doctors face many barriers when trying to obtain certification as a Medical Doctor in the United States. Medical school transcripts and diplomas must be submitted to a private nonprofit organization for verification. After that, foreign medical doctors must pass all three steps of the United States Medical Licensing Examination and obtain American recommendation letters from volunteering or working in a hospital, clinic, or research organization. Additionally, foreign doctors must prove proficiency in the English language and they must be permanent residents or obtain a work visa.
Once those requirements are met, physicians must be accepted into a medical residency program. This is one of the biggest hurdles as programs are very competitive. The average residency acceptance rate for foreign medical doctors is about 42.1%. Those who do match to a residency program often end up in unpopular residencies in community hospitals, undesirable locations, and in less lucrative specialties.
The result of this grueling process is that many foreign medical doctors do not practice medicine in the United States. This is a waste of hard earned medical skill that would benefit both the physician and the American medical system. Fortunately, there are other solutions that allow foreign medical doctors to take an easier route to practicing medicine in the United States.
In the United States, Nurse Practitioners are able to practice medicine independently. They are able to join a medical practice and treat patients and can even open their own independent medical practice.
There are nursing programs available which do not require TOEFL, legal U.S. residency or citizenship, work permits, or entrance exams. The visa application process is much easier for nursing degree students, the requirements are less stringent, and admission is much more attainable. These programs help foreign medical doctors to obtain the required clinical hours, letters of recommendation, and references they need to succeed in a medical career in the United States.
- Accelerated nursing programs are available in the U.S. for Foreign Medical Doctors and Dentists.
- You can earn an Associate of Science Degree (ASN) in Nursing and take the NCLEX-RN exam to become a Registered Nurse within a few short months.
- Your medical education credits are transferable and can help you earn your degree faster.
- Median Salary for nurses in 2017 was $70,000 per year or $33.65 per hour, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
- Foreign Medical Doctors can become certified as a Nurse Practitioner through academic courses in the U.S. once matriculated into a nursing program.
- Nurse Practitioners can independently open a medical practice in the U.S. and see patients.
- Median Salary for Nurse Practitioners in 2017 was $ 110,930 per year or $53.33 per hour, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
- We also have openings and opportunities for medical school enrollment in Caribbean medical schools which will allow you to become licensed to work as a Medical Doctor in the United States.
